There’s no harm looking a bit older on prom night. After all, it’s one of the rarest nights in your life that you get to dress up and get all dolled up with your friends. To do this mature look, go heavy on the eyeliner and make sure to put on a bright red lipstick for extra appeal.

17. Rock the Black Dress Look

We know that black dresses are so popular in prom. It’s elegant and sophisticated. So if you’re wearing a black dress, make sure to match it with bright red lipstick, just like what Taylor Swift did here. Bright red lips plus a black dress is a deadly combination.

18. Simple for Silver Look

A lot of girls have the belief that if they wore a silver dress, they immediately have to match it up with silver eyes too. Well, that’s not really true. Maryam Maquillage’s tutorial on this Chrissy Teigen inspired look is great for silver dresses. Keep the whole face simple and push the boundaries with a dark red berry lipstick.

21. Almost Bare Look

At first glance, it seems like Kylie Jenner isn’t wearing any makeup at all except for her beautiful berry lips. While the lips is the focal point of this almost bare look, do watch out for the cat eyes, which is just a subtle detail in pulling off this oh-so natural look.

22.Rose Petals

We’re not particularly sure why this is called rose petals, but we could care less because it looks so beautiful. The mixture of gold, bronze and violet is very unique for a prom look. So if you want to be different, try this look out.

23. Metallic Blue Eyes

[instagram url=https://www.instagram.com/p/Bt05Pp-An4v/ hidecaption=true width=625]

Blue eyeshadow makes blue eyes pop. This metallic blue eyeshadow will look great in light to dark blue dresses, which is also a favorite in prom night. Complete the metallic look with rose lips to make the look a bit more subdued.

Metallic Eye Makeup Ideas: Stunning Gold, Silver, and More! https://makeuptutorials.com/metallic-eye-makeup-ideas/ https://makeuptutorials.com/metallic-eye-makeup-ideas/#respond Mon, 16 Dec 2024 06:00:09 +0000 https://makeuptutorials.com/?p=65984 Metallic eye makeup is having its moment. Whether you’re dressing up for a holiday party, a glamorous date night, or just flexing your inner makeup artist, metallics are the secret sauce to turning heads. And let’s be real—who doesn’t want their eyes to shine like the main character in every room? With gold, silver, and shimmers in your arsenal, your eye game is about to get a serious upgrade.

Let’s get into the juicy details, shall we? ‍♀

Metallic Eye Makeup Ideas: Stunning Gold, Silver, and More!

Metallic Eye Makeup Magic: Learn How to Shine with Gold & Silver

Who needs diamonds when your eyes can sparkle brighter? Metallic eye makeup is like an instant mood booster for your face. It turns up the drama and delivers a dose of luxury. Not sure where to start? No worries because we’ve rounded up a list of products and tips to help you achieve that glam glow-up.

Prep Your Canvas Like a Pro

Metallic eye makeup is your golden (or silver!) ticket to show-stopping glam. Achieving that flawless, Instagram-worthy shimmer requires more than swiping on the shadow. The secret lies in careful preparation and layering techniques that enhance the brilliance of metallic pigments.

Start with a Primer

The first step in any great eye look is using primer, which smooths the surface, prevents creasing, and keeps your shadows vibrant throughout the day. For those with oily lids, primer helps control shine and extend makeup wear time.

Neutralize Discoloration

Once your primer is in place, apply concealer to your lids. This not only evens out discoloration but also helps metallic shades pop. As a result, your eyeshadow will look brighter and more polished.

Set It with Powder

Before reaching for your eyeshadow, lightly dust the translucent powder over the concealer. This creates a matte base, which makes blending easier and locks the base in place. Furthermore, this step prevents creasing and ensures your look stays flawless for hours.

Optional: Amplify with a Base

If you want your metallic eye makeup to appear even bolder, start with a cream eyeshadow in white or nude. This amplifies the intensity of metallic pigments, making them appear richer and more luminous. Consequently, your eyes will stand out even more.

✨ Pro Tip: No Primer? No Problem!

In the absence of eyeshadow primer, long-wear concealer can work as an alternative. It provides a smooth surface for shadows and helps to prevent creasing.

Pick Your Metallic Vibe ⚡

The beauty of metallics is their versatility. While gold and silver may be the main attractions, the real magic happens when you combine them with complementary tones.

  • Golden Hour Glam: Gold is universally flattering but also brings warmth in every skin tone. Pair it with bronze, copper, or rich chocolate brown for a sunlit, goddess-like glow.
  • Silver Sparkle Queen: Cool silvers and gunmetals are edgy and dramatic. They pair perfectly with midnight blues, cool lilacs, or even stark black for that bold, icy vibe.
  • Shimmer Wonderland: When in doubt, top off any metallic look with a sheer shimmer shadow or pigment for a dazzling finish. Multi-dimensional shimmers add depth and that little extra something.

✨ Pro Tip: Not sure which metal suits you best? Gold tends to flatter warm undertones, while silver shines brightest on cool tones. If you’re neutral, congratulations—you’ve hit the jackpot.

The How-To: Subtle to Showstopping

Your chosen vibe may set the stage, but the technique will bring it to life. Whether you’re after a soft, understated glow or a bold, dramatic masterpiece, these steps will help you create a look that truly shines.

For a Soft, Wearable Glow

Metallics don’t always have to be loud. With a careful approach, they can create an elegant, polished look that’s perfect for any day.

  • Start with a Sheer Wash
Lightly sweep metallic gold or silver across your lids using a fluffy eyeshadow brush. This gives your eyes a soft, radiant sheen without overwhelming the rest of your makeup.
  • Add Depth to Your Crease
Blend a neutral matte brown into your crease to define your eye shape. This subtle touch enhances dimension while ensuring the metallics remain the focus.
  • Brighten with a Pop of Shimmer
Dab a tiny amount of champagne shimmer onto the inner corners of your eyes. This quick trick instantly opens them up and makes you looking refreshed and awake.

Perfect for:

  • Workdays when you want to feel put-together.
  • Casual outings with friends.
  • Moments when a hint of glow is all you need.

For Bold and Dramatic Eyes

Metallics can easily turn heads when paired with layers and contrast. To achieve a look that demands attention, follow these steps:

  • Pack On the Pigment
Use a flat brush to apply your metallic shade to the center of your lid. If you want more intensity, switch to your fingertip. The warmth from your finger boosts the pigment’s vibrancy and makes the color pop.
  • Deepen the Outer Corners
Blend a darker shade, such as smoky charcoal or espresso brown, into your outer corners. This creates a smooth gradient while adding depth and a touch of drama.
  • Create a Statement with Liner
Use eyeliner to define your eyes. A sharp black wing is always a timeless choice.  However, trying metallic liners in complementary or contrasting shades can elevate your look to new heights.
  • Finish with Fluttery Lashes
Add volumizing mascara or false lashes to complete the look. Fluttery, feathery lashes strike the perfect balance by softening the boldness while enhancing texture and volume.

Perfect for:

  • Glamorous nights out.
  • Holiday parties where making an impression is key.
  • Special events that call for unforgettable drama.

More Sparkle? Yes Please. ✨

Because let’s face it—more is more.

  • Loose Glitter: Pat loose glitter over your metallic shadow for a next-level sparkle. Use a glitter adhesive for mess-free, long-lasting wear.
  • Liquid Eyeshadow: Metallic liquid shadows are the lazy girl’s best friend. Just swipe, blend, and you’re done!
  • Highlighter Hack: A champagne or rose-gold highlighter on your brow bone and cheekbones ties the whole look together.

✨ Pro Tip: When using glitter, apply your eyes first. This way, any fallout can be cleaned up without messing up your base makeup.

Longevity Tricks and Cleanup Hacks

While metallics are breathtaking, they can also be prone to fallout. Save yourself the trouble by pressing shadows onto your lid rather than swiping them. After your makeup’s done, spritz on a setting spray to lock it all in place.

If glitter does fall onto your cheeks, don’t panic. Gently pick it up with a piece of tape. Just avoid rubbing—it’ll only spread the sparkle (not in a good way).

Sparkle & Shine!

Step into the spotlight with metallic eye makeup—your ultimate accessory for every occasion! This radiant trend is all about unapologetic sparkle and fierce confidence. Are you ready to try it for yourself? Share your looks, comment below with your fave metallic shade, and spread the shine with your squad! ✨

Kat Von D Beauty New Eyeshadow Palette Sneak Peek

Our emotions had been on a rollercoaster ride since Kat Von D shared a photo of a sketch months ago on Instagram. It was a lettering for her makeup line’s new product coming up. In her IG photo caption, she already revealed that Serpentina is an eyeshadow palette!

Every Kat Von D-evotees (and that includes me) got so excited to see what will be the look of this new eyeshadow palette. It got us wondering what will be the colors, the finishes, the name of each shade and of course when it’s going to be released? Until Kat Von D teased us again in Snapchat and Twitter about what’s inside this upcoming palette – in black and white (well-played Kat Von D). SMH

Just a few days ago, she finally revealed – YES! No more grey filter this time! The new eyeshadow palette has eight beautiful shades and a pot on the end. It has rich colors including  red, blue, green and mooore! We’re loving the Kat Von D Beauty Snap below.

With beauty looks that ranged from the most natural (#nomakeup) to bold smokey eyes, celebs put their best face and hair forward. Catch the best looks of the year’s most glamorous event here.

Best Hair & Makeup Looks from the Cannes Film Festival 2016

Ah, Cannes… It’s the ultimate party of the year with a week of photo-calls, dinners, screenings, and parties taking place on the Mediterranean coast of one of the world’s most beautiful countries, France. Cannes has not only become synonymous for great cinema, it’s become known as the event to catch a glimpse of celebrities at their best-dressed.

This year was no different. As hoards of celebrities flocked to the breezy coast, thousands of paparazzi followed them to snap photos of their couture dresses and tuxedos, and, expertly-crafted hair and makeup. And, because we love fangirl-ing over new beauty trends, we just had to round up stand-out looks for our readers.

Below are looks that transcended the boundaries of red carpet makeup, took on a life of their own, or accentuated the personality of the celeb who wore them. These are looks we’d love to try, but even more importantly, love looking at.

Enjoy!

1. Blake Lively

Blake Lively’s look screams spring with healthy, bronze skin and flushed pink lips. Feeling as if we haven’t seen her on the red carpet since forever, it’s refreshing to know Mrs. Reynolds style game is as on point as ever.

2. Soko

|

We loved Soko’s Victorian era-inspired look. The minimal base with taupe makeup works well on her fair skin and dark bob. Overall, it was a beautiful look for Cannes.

3. Susan Sarandon

After all of these years, Susan Sarandon has still got it. While this icon always dazzles on the red carpet, we had to put her on this list for those stylin’ glasses alone. We’re not sure what the backstory is on them or whether Miss Sarandon was trying to hide blue eyeshadow, but whatever the reason, we are digging it.

4. Caitriona Balfe

Don’t underestimate the power of a pink lip, ladies. Caitriona proved that theory as fact with her minimalist look whose primary feature was a bold pink lip. What we also love about Caitriona’s look is her side-swept French braid. This is definitely the look to recreate for spring.

5. Kirsten Dunst

I’m a huge Kirsten Dunst fan. And I’m not a fan because of her style or beauty choices (which are always on point and uniquely Kirsten), I’m a fan of her acting. I loved her in Virgin Suicides and Melancholia and god, I just wish she was in more! Anyway, I digress… Kirsten Dunst killed it at this year’s festival with a retro yellow dress and classic red lip. This goes to show that red and yellow are always a good color combination.

6. Kristen Stewart

|

Going platinum-blonde was one of the best stylistic choices Kristen Stewart has ever made. The bold on-trend color accentuates her individual style and attitude. At this year’s film fest, Kristen rocked a classic grunge duo: platinum-blonde hair and kohl smokey eyes. The look is very Saint Laurent and we love it.

7. Jessica Chastain

Whoa, Jessica Chastain was channeling some serious Jessica Rabbit vibes with her Old Hollywood waves and vibrant red lip. We love the contrast between her red lip and blue dress — it’s a stunning combination on her skin tone.

8. Melanie Thierry

Melanie Thierry defied red carpet fashion with her uber-minimal (we don’t even think she wore makeup) Cannes look. She somehow managed to make #IWokeUpLikeThis look #RedCarpetReady with her messy top knot and bare skin.

9. Lily Donaldson

While this look is a bit too dark for our liking (it’s spring!), I can’t ever resist a good dark lip and what Lily Donaldson wore on the red carpet is a good dark lip. The look would have been perfect for fall or for an event that’s not on the French-Mediterranean shore in the outdoors with natural, bright light. Know what we’re sayin’?

10. Tanya Dyagileva

|

Artist Tanya Dyagileva brought the smolder, didn’t she? Where most actresses, aside from Eva Longoria, stuck to natural, no-makeup looks, Tanya said, “Eff it!” and went for a dark smokey eye, mauve lip and killer side braids. We love the drama this entire look, when pulled together, brings.

11. Aymeline Valade

French model Aymeline Valade channeled some serious Marlene Dietrich vibes in her androgynous, powerful Cannes Film Festival look. She kept her hair and makeup simple, but paired a dazzling women’s tuxedo with drop earrings. The contrast between the structure of the tuxedo and the femininity of the earrings is brilliant. This was one of our favorite looks of the festival.

Lancome made applying makeup much easier with this palette. Featuring an awesome, I-can-remember-that 5-step system, the theory behind this palette was to move down colors by brushing one all over the lid, then the crease, highlighting, lining, and then repeating the process until the desired effect was achieved. It may sound complicated when written, but it’s easy to follow in person. We promise.

Smokey Eye Makeup Tutorial https://makeuptutorials.com/smokey-eye-makeup-tutorial/ Thu, 23 Jan 2020 11:00:01 +0000 https://makeuptutorials.com/?p=21719 Use this sultry smokey eye makeup tutorial before a date night or as evening makeup for a special occasion.

This is the perfect sultry smokey eye makeup tutorial. There are plenty of soft, sultry, and sexy makeup looks to choose from for a hot date . . . but the smoky eye is still the sultriest of shadow looks, whether you’re an amateur or a pro. I like to call this particular look the “bedroom eye.” It is easy to execute (for the technically challenged), and makes you look sleek enough for that “just-walked-out-of-a-Victoria’s-Secret-shoot” look. The best parts about it: (1) hide your under-eye wrinkles with ease (2) make your eye color stand out – this looks great on both light and dark colored eyes (3) don’t worry about it creasing or melting off, this will last all night!

Smokey Eye Makeup Tutorial

Smokey Eye | Step 1

After applying your eye shadow primer, apply a layer of black gel liner on the eyelid. This doesn’t need to be perfect by any means! Slap it on, because the blending comes next!

Smokey Eye | Step 2

Blend the eyeliner into your crease slightly, by using an eye shadow brush with stiff, compact bristles. The brush must be stiff because the liner dries quickly and isn’t as easily blended as shadow.

Smokey Eye | Step 3

Apply black eye shadow on top of the liner using a patting motion. Apply only as far as you have blended the eyeliner.

Smokey Eye | Step 4

Apply the reddish-brown shadow with a fluffy blending brush into your crease. It’s okay to drop some down onto the eyelid also to blend with the black eye shadow.

Smokey Eye | Step 5

Apply a small amount of gel liner to the lower lash line. Blend it out using the stiffbrush again. Then, using the fluffy brush and reddish-brown shadow, blend the liner out even more.

Smokey Eye | Step 6 – Final Step

Using a silver or gold highlighting eye shadow, apply an accent to the inner corner of the eye. Apply thick layers of mascara on top and bottom lashes. Voilà! You’re ready for a night on the town, or a hot date.
