Halloween 2025’s most haunting makeup look? Still, Wednesday Addams. Known as the iconic pale, poker-faced child of doom, our favorite moody heroine has had a serious glow-up since Netflix’s hit series premiered in 2022. Played by Jenna Ortega, this modern Wednesday wears a chalk-white foundation and stiff braids that make up her soft-goth aesthetic. With spooky season around the corner, it’s the perfect time to channel her icy composure and deathly stare in your Halloween look. This guide will show you exactly how to recreate the sinisterly chic Wednesday Addams halloween makeup using easy steps and products you probably already own.

What You’ll Need:

  • Cool-toned eyeshadow palette (taupe, charcoal, soft black, dusty plum)
  • Eye primer
  • Black gel eyeliner or smudge pencil
  • Volumizing mascara
  • Deep berry or plum matte lipstick
  • Cool contour or bronzer
  • Black wig (optional, with center-part braids)

How to Nail the Wednesday Addams Halloween Makeup

1. Prep your base.

Apply an eye primer to your lids and let it set completely to keep your eyeshadow crease-free and help the look last through every eerie Halloween night. Keep your skin natural as Wednesday’s newest look isn’t ghostly white, but softly matte.

2. Shape the brows.

If your brows aren’t dark enough, fill them in with a black or deep brown pencil. Wednesday’s brows are defined but not overdrawn, which gives her that serious, “don’t mess with me” expression.

3. Smoke out the eyes.

Using your cool-toned eyeshadow palette, sweep a taupe or grey shade on your crease. Blend a matte charcoal or black over the lids and smudge lightly along the lower lash line. You’re aiming for a soft, shadowy eye and not a harsh black ring. The result should look like you’ve been up all night reading grim poetry.

4. Add subtle definition.

Line your upper lash line with a gel or pencil eyeliner and smudge it slightly with a brush or fingertip. Skip the sharp cat-eye as modern Wednesday’s liner looks lived-in and brooding.

5. Lashes and skin.

Apply two coats of mascara to the top and bottom lashes for that heavy-lidded stare. Lightly contour under your cheekbones with a cool bronzer or contour powder to add definition, but keep your complexion pale and matte.

6. Finish with the lips.

Swipe on a deep berry or plum matte lipstick. Blot once for a diffused, worn-in look. Pair it with Wednesday’s signature low braids (or a wig with a clean center part), and you’re ready to deadpan your way through any Halloween party.

The Final Look

Remember not to smile to totally rock this look!

Wednesday Addams Halloween Look: Deadpan Done Right

No matter how many adaptations she gets, she’s still the same brooding, delightfully menacing Wednesday Addams we all know and love. So, if you’re still deciding who to be at your Halloween party, this look is the perfect mix of classic and new.

10 Artistic Halloween Makeup Looks You Need To Try This Year https://makeuptutorials.com/artistic-halloween-makeup-looks/ https://makeuptutorials.com/artistic-halloween-makeup-looks/#respond Mon, 30 Dec 2024 21:50:59 +0000 https://makeuptutorials.com/?p=44105 Halloween Makeup Looks

Let’s be honest, we makeup junkies get most of our inspiration from beauty YouTubers. Now that Halloween is fast approaching, you’ve probably been browsing hundreds of Halloween tutorials! Well, look no further– we’ve compiled the most creative Halloween makeup looks created by our favorite YouTube artists.

Halloween Makeup Looks: Worth Trying This Year

Check and out and prepared to be spooked…

1. Glam&Gore | Post-Apocalyptic Bad*ss

We all want to cry rainbow tears, right?
Make a statement at this year’s Halloween party with your effortlessly messy, post-apocalyptic bad*ss makeup. You can simultaneously be bright and punchy with your eyes, while being prepared for a nuclear wasteland with your grungy clothing.
The key to this Halloween makeup look is the color scheme. Go heavy on the oranges and blues, and blend out with analogous colors. That’s how you achieve the perfect rainbow gradient. Ground the look with some messy black eyeshadow. If it looks a little dirty, don’t worry! That’s the look!

2. Chrisspy | Gangster Clown

If you haven’t seen Chrisspy’s Gangster Clown Tutorial – Watch. It. Right. Now.
This is the perfect opportunity to practice your cut crease. The goal for this eye look is a sharp winged liner and metallic eyeshadow. Contrast your glamorous eye look with some artful clown face painting.
You can be that dangerous character in the corner of the Halloween party, looking mysteriously sexy.

3. NikkiTutorials | Glam Killer Clown

Clowns are here to stay for Halloween makeup 2017. In the words of NikkieTutorials, it’s all about being “creepy, but fun”.
This clown look is for the outrageous daredevil. You’re not looking to be a sexy clown part-time, no. You’re looking for screams and scares with this bone-chilling makeup look! Pair your terrifying clown makeup with a gilded crown to let everyone at the party know that you rule this Halloween town.

4. Desi Perkins | Melting Skull

Let’s add a little dimension, shall we? Now, this look by Desi Perkins might seem difficult. But really, all you need is a little gelatin. Take your time shading your half-skull face. Slap on a fierce eyeshadow look on the other half of your face. When all is said and done, a little $6 bottle of Mehron 3D Gel will add the melting dimension that you’re looking for. You can be spooky and slay at the same time!

5. Lustrelux | Pastel Skull

Perhaps you want to prettify your traditional Halloween skull makeup look. Lustrelux’s dreamy pastel skull is the way to go. Break out those colorful eyeshadows you never wear and play with some pinks, purples, and blues. Lustrelux layers multiple products, but you can achieve the same effect with a few metallic eyeshadows and a few matte shades. Make your eyes the focus and add some subtle shading to give a skull-like effect. Once you shade in some spooky teeth, the look will come together in the end!

6. Too Much Mouth | Pop Art Zombie

This one’s for the face paint lovers out there. The Pop Art Zombie is a classic Halloween makeup look. Nothing stands out more than neon paint under a spotlight. Let your creativity flow with this one. You can follow Too Much Mouth’s makeup tutorial and rock the lime green zombie look. Or you can switch things up and go for hot pink, or maybe sky blue, or perhaps bumblebee yellow! One thing is for sure: the dead have never looked this good.

7. Disney Evil Queen

Stand out from the crowd of Moanas and Belles this Halloween. Take a walk on the wild side and indulge your inner Evil Queen. Nothing says fabulous more than high arch eyebrows and smoky purple eyeshadow. Play around with your costume to achieve maximum Queen status. Accessories are sure to make the look – Bejewel yourself in gold necklaces and rings, and DON’T forget your crown.
One thing is for sure: you’ll be guaranteed to slay in this Halloween makeup look.

8. Bratz Doll

If you’re a glamorous makeup queen, then Bratz makeup look is your jam. This Halloween makeup look is the best way to satisfy your childhood dream. The best part is that it’s one of the easiest looks to achieve! No face paint, no gelatin, no complicated shading here. Just fun pink eyeshadow and frosty magenta lips!
Don’t be afraid to exaggerate your look – Bratz dolls were infamous for their hyper-thin eyebrows and pouty lips!

9. Jordan Hanz | Pop Art Wonder Woman

This was the year of Wonder Woman. She came back to the big screen in a big way – and you can be sure that nearly every Halloween costume will be Wonder Woman. A perfect way to stand out from the horde of Diana Princes is to try out this Pop Art Wonder Woman by Jordan Hanz! It may be a bit time-consuming, but the results are worth it. This artistic style of makeup will make your features POP.

10. Promise Phan | Pixel Art Face

15 DIY Movie-Inspired Makeup Inspirations for Halloween https://makeuptutorials.com/scary-diy-movie-inspired-makeup-looks-halloween/ https://makeuptutorials.com/scary-diy-movie-inspired-makeup-looks-halloween/#respond Mon, 30 Dec 2024 06:48:08 +0000 https://makeuptutorials.com/?p=25608 Movie-inspired Makeup

Are you ready for the scariest DIY movie-inspired makeup looks for Halloween? I know I am!

DIY Movie-Inspired Makeup Looks for Halloween

Halloween is one of those times that a lot of makeup artists look forward to because of the many creative Halloween looks they can create. From ghosts and goblins to sweet and cute cartoon characters. However, I decided that in this feature, I will focus on DIY movie-inspired makeup tutorials from some of the most talented Makeup vloggers on Youtube and Instagram. I have to admit, I am in awe at how detailed and tedious the process is in a lot of these makeup transformation videos, and I just can’t help but feel lucky that they all have the time and dedication to show us their beautiful work.

So before you decide on which Halloween costume to wear, check out these scary alternatives.

Ditch those cute, sexy looks for these crazy, DIY movie-inspired makeup on fright night and scare the wits out of your friends and family.

I know that after this post is through, you will be the most frightening creature that will grace this year’s Halloween party. It’s safe to say, the Queen of The Damned Award is in the bag!

Warning: Spooky images ahead

1. Billy the Puppet (Saw)

|

Billy the Puppet is a character from the movie Saw. Billy played a crucial role in the film, while John Kramer used him to communicate with the test subjects. This is why every time the test subjects see Billy, they know something bad is about to happen, and honestly, even if they don’t, just the look of Billy will scare the lights out of anyone.

2. Witch (Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters)

|

On a modern take on the classic tale of Hansel and Gretel, Witch Hunters was a story about Hansel and Gretel as bounty hunters. If you haven’t seen it yet, they hunted down witches. But mind you, these witches do not look anywhere near the witches in The Craft movie. Well, if I remember correctly, these fairytale stories have always had scary-looking hags for witches, but this DIY movie-inspired makeup look shows you how to be a scary demon witch.

3. The Exorcist

If there is one movie that will really scare the bejesus out of anyone, that’s The Exorcist.  Seriously, I don’t even know how some people can watch The Exorcist because I tried, and I just can’t watch the whole movie through. Even this still image above would haunt me for weeks! But, it’ll get a lot of reactions this Halloween, for sure!

4. Emily (The Corpse Bride)

|

The Exorcist look was a bit tough to deal with, so let’s take it down a notch with Emily from The Corpse Bride. She is an undead bride who claims that she is the supposed-to-be wife of Victor Van Dort. The look is creepy, but in a cartoonish sort of way, which means I don’t have to deal with any life-like demon-possessed creature to get me that Halloween costume award this year.

5. Annabelle (The Conjuring)

Annabelle is a doll from The Conjuring movie that was inhabited by an evil spirit. I don’t know why other people who’ve watched the film find it hilarious that Annabelle turned into an evil doll, but for some, they would never look at dolls the same way again. If you want that same kind of reaction on Halloween, turn into Annabelle.

6. Clown (The Poltergeist)

|

The Poltergeist from 1982 had a remake recently, and no thanks to better special effects, now the clown in the movie has become scarier and creepier to the delight of horror movie fans. Personally, the thought of clowns creeps me out and I think for Halloween it might just be my best gamble.

7. Harley Quinn (Suicide Squad)

|

Harley Quinn may look cute and badass for a lot of people, but she made this list because she’s actually a really creepy person. Harley is Joker’s lover, which already tells you why she’s a scary person to deal with. Thanks to the Suicide Squad movie, Harley Quinn became a favorite character to copy. Expect a lot of Harley Quinns on the street this Halloween!

8. God Mask (The Purge: Anarchy)

The Purge: Anarchy (2014) is a sequel to the 2013 movie, but the concept is pretty much the same. Once a year, the government allows anyone and everyone to commit a crime within a 12-hour period. No arrests will be made at all. While the movie concept itself is already creeping me out, the mask of the main antagonist will scare the hell out of you even more. Want to do this look? Check it out here:

9. Fornicus (Cabin In The Woods)

movie-inspired makeup

I must admit, I’m not a fan of horror movies, but I watched Cabin In The Woods (because Chris Hemsworth was there)I must say, there were several scary creatures in both the cabin and the woods, and they make for really great Halloween looks like our friend here, Fornicus.

10. Tiffany (Bride of Chucky)

If you think Anabelle is the creepiest doll in movie history, then you’ve never seen the Chucky films. The soul of a serial killer entered the supposedly friendly Chucky doll and went on to cause havoc among families. It only got worse when he was joined by his girlfriend, Tiffanny. Tiffany’s smile alone causes nightmares! It’s relatively simple to recreate, just bring a prop knife with you instead of the real thing.

11. Pennywise (It)

Stephen King definitely knows what he was doing when he wrote It. People who watched the 1990 series and the 2017 movie version have become fascinated with the bloodthirsty clown Pennywise. Wasn’t Bill Skarsgard the perfect actor to bring the ancient evil clown to life? Recreate that look this Halloween!

12. Other Mother (Coraline)

Neil Gaiman writes some of the weirdest stories out there, and Coraline isn’t an exception. The 2009 animated adaptation portrayed Coraline’s Other Mother perfectly with the button eyes and creepy smile. You may have to look for the biggest buttons you can find but the look is worth it!

13. Valak (The Conjuring)

After being traumatized by Anabelle, The Conjuring 2: Valak delivered yet another iconic horror film villain in Valak. The demonic nun’s overall look is easy to remake. If you’re looking for an easy but creepy look this Halloween, you should try this DIY movie-inspired makeup look.

14. Enchantress (Suicide Squad)

Enchantress was the baddie in a movie about baddies. That alone makes her worthy to be a part of this list. In Suicide Squad, the ancient cursed witch takes over Cara Delevigne’s body when summoned but she eventually possessed her. If you have long black hair or a wig, you won’t have a hard time turning into Enchantress.

15. Edward Scissorhands

Johnny Depp breathes life into every character he portrays. He was beloved as Jack Sparrow in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, as well as in other roles he took on. However, there’s one character that established his penchant for the macabre early on in his career: Edward Scissorhands. With scissors as hands, his portrayal of the weird outcast made him another favorite character to turn into during Halloween!

Fake Burns: Create Realistic Effects for a Jaw-Dropping Halloween Costume https://makeuptutorials.com/fake-burns-realistic-effects-halloween/ https://makeuptutorials.com/fake-burns-realistic-effects-halloween/#respond Tue, 29 Oct 2024 09:52:22 +0000 https://makeuptutorials.com/?p=65859 Creating fake burns can bring your Halloween costume to the next level. The sight of realistic burns adds a chilling effect that will shock and impress the Halloween crowd. The best part is that you don’t need professional makeup skills or expensive tools. With common household items like petroleum jelly, liquid latex, toilet paper, and cosmetics, you can create a realistic burn effect. This guide teaches you how to create fake burns to add spookiness to your Halloween costume.

Fake Burns: Create Realistic Effects for a Jaw-Dropping Halloween Costume

How to Craft Disturbingly Realistic Fake Burns for Halloween

Adding fake burns is an awesome, gruesome way to give your costume a disturbingly lifelike effect. This guide teaches you how to layer liquid latex, toilet paper, and makeup to create fake burns that appear charred and blistered. Here’s how to create fake burn effects that will leave everyone wide-eyed and speechless:

Materials:

  • Petroleum Jelly
  • Liquid Latex
  • Toilet Paper
  • Cosmetics (red, brown, and black shades)
  • Makeup Brushes or Sponges

Step 1: Prepare the Skin

Clean the skin thoroughly before applying the burn effect. Remove any oils or dirt to help the latex adhere properly. If you’re working near the eyes, apply a layer of petroleum jelly around the area to protect the delicate skin. This will also make it easier to remove the latex later on when you’re done.

Step 2: Build the Burn Texture

Use a sponge or brush to apply a thin layer of liquid latex to the desired area. While the latex is still wet, press a small piece of toilet paper onto it. Gently wrinkle the paper to create a rough, damaged skin texture. Add another layer of latex to secure the paper in place. Continue building layers and allow each one to dry before adding the next. As you increase the layers, the texture becomes more pronounced.

Step 3: Apply the Base Color

Cover the area with a light red cosmetic or face paint. Fill every crease and bump to create the appearance of raw, freshly burned skin. At this point,  the base layer may not look realistic yet. Don’t worry: the next few steps will add depth and enhance the effect.

Step 4: Add Dimension with Darker Colors

Enhance the burn by applying darker reds and browns. Focus the darker red along the edges and deeper areas to mimic the look of blood. Use brown on raised sections to replicate charred skin. Blend the colors thoroughly for a smoother transition and a more realistic appearance.

Step 5: Add Shadows and Final Details

Complete the burn by adding shadows and highlights. Dab black makeup into creases and circular areas to create a scorched skin appearance. Blend the black into the red and brown to achieve a seamless effect. Finally, apply brown or black shadows around the edges to simulate soot and dirt and make it look more authentic.

Step 6: Add Shine for Realism

Dab a small amount of petroleum jelly to create a wet, glossy look. Doing so adds a fresh, shiny burn effect. However, avoid overdoing it as too much jelly can make the shine look greasy instead of realistic.

Step 7: Lock in the Look

Set your makeup with a setting spray. After perfecting the burn, use a makeup sealer to ensure everything stays in place throughout the night. Whether you’re attending a party or trick-or-treating, sealing your makeup will help it last longer and keep the effects intact.

Tips for Maximum Realism

Creating incredibly realistic fake burns requires attention to detail and a few strategic techniques. By focusing on intricate texture, color blending, and size variation, you can elevate your Halloween costume from ordinary to jaw-dropping. Here are some tips to maximize realism:

Play with Texture

Layer and wrinkle toilet paper unevenly to create depth and texture. Build multiple layers of varying thickness to add drama and dimension to the fake burns. This method enhances realism, especially up close or from different angles.

Blend Colors Seamlessly

Blend reds, browns, and blacks smoothly for a natural, damaged appearance. Avoid harsh lines by ensuring each color transitions fluidly into the next. This blending technique makes the fake burns look freshly inflicted.

Vary Burn Sizes

Create burns of different sizes to add complexity. Mix small burns with larger ones for a more dynamic and convincing effect. This variety suggests multiple injuries and enhances the overall authenticity of the look.

Combine with Other Effects

Enhance the burn with additional effects like fake blood, bruising, or soot. Drip fake blood around the burns to simulate fresh wounds. This combination completes the horror aesthetic and elevates your costume’s impact.

Removing the Fake Burns

Apply petroleum jelly to soften the latex for easy removal. Gently lift the edges and slowly peel away the latex. If you feel resistance, use makeup remover to loosen the latex. After removing, clean any remaining color with makeup remover, then wash your face with a gentle cleanser. Finish by moisturizing to hydrate and soothe your skin.

Create the Ultimate Halloween Shock

Adding fake burns will take your Halloween costume to a whole new level of fright. With practice, you’ll craft realistic burns that will leave everyone gasping in horror. This Halloween, prepare to haunt the night with a look that sends shivers down spines!

Snapchat Lion Filter | Super Cute Halloween Makeup Tutorial https://makeuptutorials.com/snapchat-lion-filter/ https://makeuptutorials.com/snapchat-lion-filter/#respond Fri, 18 Oct 2024 21:54:35 +0000 https://makeuptutorials.com/?p=34306 If you don’t want to be gruesome this Halloween, then go cutesy! Why don’t you try this Snapchat Lion Filter tutorial? It’s so easy and fun!

Ahhh! We’re so close to the Halloween! Are you ready with your makeup? If you aren’t, then I’ve got a really nice, cute, and fun suggestion for you: dress up like a Snapchat Lion filter! This idea is P-E-R-F-E-C-T for those who don’t want to go macabre, although looking dead comes in a lot of ways these days.  Consider this too if you don’t want to spend a lot of time and effort on makeup. I promise you this takes less than 30 minutes of your time tops. After work, you can rush to the bathroom, get yourself done, and enjoy your Halloween party.

Snapchat Lion Filter | Super Cute Halloween Makeup Tutorial

Fun, Trendy, Cutesy Halloween Look You Can Do In Thirty Minutes Or Less

This Snapchat Lion Filter tutorial is picture perfect and surprisingly easy. All you need is some liquid eyeliner, lipstick, eyelashes, and bronzer – that’s it! I am pretty confident you have these types of makeup in your bag or purse. If you don’t, head to your closest drugstore and surely you’ll find amazing makeup for cheap there.

Let’s not wait too long, though. Together with my friend, who’s oh so gracious enough to be my model (for free – yey!), I am going to show you how it’s done. Let’s get started!

Products you’ll need for this Snapchat Lion Filter Tutorial:

Step 1. Create a winged-eye effect

Create Winged Eye | Snapchat Lion Filter Super Cute Halloween Makeup Tutorial

Start working on the eyes. Using your liquid black eyeliner, create a winged-eye effect by extending your lines all the way to the brows and back to the upper part of your eyes just below the crease. This way, you give the illusion of having cat-like eyes. If you have shaky hands, I’d recommend resting your elbows on a flat surface like a table for stability. Do the same step to your other eye.

Step 2. Color the space black

Fill Eyes With Black | Snapchat Lion Filter Super Cute Halloween Makeup Tutorial

After you’ve created your cat eye, you will notice you’re actually left with some space. Now we don’t want to look like we’ve been beaten black and blue, do we? 🙂 So fill the space up with your liquid eyeliner. As an alternative to your eyeliner, you can use a bit of black face paint or the Onyx Ice Frost by Jeffree Star Cosmetics. It’s marvelous, let me tell you.

Step 3. Trace the area of your nose

Trace Nose | Snapchat Lion Filter Super Cute Halloween Makeup Tutorial

Using your black eyeliner again (see, you don’t need a lot of makeup for your Snapchat Lion Filter look), trace the area around your nose by following the curves. Make sure you cover your entire nose – that is, trace above and below then bring the line all the way to your philtrum (that’s the groove or ridge between the nose and the upper lip).

Step 4. Fill the nose

Fill The Nose | Snapchat Lion Filter Super Cute Halloween Makeup Tutorial

Just like what you did with your eyes, fill the space with black. Yes, you can also use your black face paint or Jeffree Star Cosmetics black highlighter here for some glisten. Hey, it’s about having fun, right?

Step 5. Add freckles

Add Freckles | Snapchat Lion Filter Super Cute Halloween Makeup Tutorial

Wouldn’t it be fun if we can attach some whiskers? But we can’t, so we’d go for something simpler: freckles. It’s sooo easy to do: just a few dots, and you’re done. Just don’t forget to put freckles on each side of your face.

Step 6. Work on the lips

Upper Lips | Snapchat Lion Filter Super Cute Halloween Makeup Tutorial

How are you doing? Are you catching up well? Great! Now you’re done with the eyes and nose, we’ll work on the lips. Get your two shades of lipsticks. Start with the upper lip using Kleancolor in Fiesta. That’s basically fuchsia pink. Cover your lips well. Done? Then proceed to the lower lip.

Lower Lips | Snapchat Lion Filter Super Cute Halloween Makeup Tutorial

This time, use Kleancolor in Barely Pink, cover the entire bottom lip, and blend.

Step 7. Attach your fake eyelashes

Attach Fake Eyelashes | Snapchat Lion Filter Super Cute Halloween Makeup Tutorial

You may be asking, “What do you need the eyelashes for?” You see, your incredible eye makeup can, unfortunately, make you look like you’ve got no lashes. 🙂 This may be the hardest part of the tutorial, but don’t worry, I’ve made a tutorial for you on how to use your lash glue and attach fake eyelashes.

Step 8. Apply bronzer

Apply Bronzer | Snapchat Lion Filter Super Cute Halloween Makeup Tutorial

To give yourself this really nice tan-looking glow, use a bronzer. Apply it to your cheeks and forehead using a large soft brush.

Step 9. Add a lion’s mane

Add Mane | Snapchat Lion Filter Super Cute Halloween Makeup Tutorial

We’re almost done with our Snapchat Lion Filter tutorial! To complete your look and transform yourself into a lioness, attach your “mane.” Don’t sweat yourself too much looking for one. Make your own. What I did was to grab my old headband, and I decorated it with some cardboard and colored paper. Got some assistance from my children in making that. Cool, right?

To see my friend and model in action – and to give you a more visual idea how to put all the makeup for your Snapchat Lion Filter look together – check out my video at Makeup Tutorials:

And we-are-done! How do you find the experience? Did you have some trouble putting those lashes? I know it can be quite challenging, but I’m sure you get the hang of it. Overall, though, I believe being your Snapchat Lion Filter is one of the easiest, quickest, and coolest looks this Halloween. If you can, don on a lion costume or get pretty ideas right here.

Easy Day of the Dead Makeup Tutorial Perfect For Halloween https://makeuptutorials.com/day-of-the-dead-makeup-tutorial/ https://makeuptutorials.com/day-of-the-dead-makeup-tutorial/#respond Fri, 18 Oct 2024 11:15:34 +0000 https://makeuptutorials.com/?p=33801 Learn how to glam up and be the center of attention this Halloween. Follow this easy and fun Day of the Dead makeup tutorial and look beautifully undead!

It’s the Halloween season once again! A lot of people don’t know it’s actually one of the busiest times of the year for makeup artists like me. More people are not only dressing up, but they’re working to get the look right. Over the years, I’ve learned to mellow from all the parties, but that doesn’t mean I don’t put on a great costume. It’s been a three-year tradition among my friends to sit down for an intimate dinner while playing Clues! (How’s that for fun?) Last year, I decided to be Carmen Sanchez from the Book of Life, wearing this beautiful sugar skull on my face. Well, it drew a lot of attention I vowed to share a nice Day of the Dad makeup tutorial. And here it is!

Easy Day of the Dead Makeup Tutorial Perfect For Halloween

How To Look Like Carmen Sanchez With These Simple Steps

Before I proceed to the actual Day of the Dead makeup tutorial, let’s hav a short history lesson, shall we? Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, is a huge celebration in Mexico from October 31 to November 2. No, this isn’t All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. The sugar skull, which I’m going to share with you, is part of this Mexican tradition and is usually placed on graves to serve as decor. Eventually, it became mainstream and is now part of everyone’s Halloween.

Why am I telling you this? I believe when you know the history or the story behind it, you’ll learn to appreciate sugar skulls and Day of the Dead makeup. Not only that, you’ll get more inspiration!

This Day of the Dead tutorial is quite long, but trust me when I say it’s easy. Just follow the steps and I bet you’ll get the look you want after:

Here’s what you need for this Day of the Dead makeup tutorial:

  • blending brush
  • flat brush
  • buffing brush
  • angled lipstick brush
  • pointed brush
  • shading brush
  • cream-based makeup or face paint

Step 1. Start with a clean face

Before you begin to apply any makeup, make sure your face is clean. Washing it with water and gentle facial soap will do. Pull your hair up or in a ponytail to avoid any hair sticking on your face while you’re doing makeup. It’s also important to have clean hands. You don’t want to have dirt trapped in your pores.

Step 2. Choose your color palette

Once your face is ready, get your color palette. Here, Kryolan 24-color Supra Palette was used, which you can buy on Amazon. This is cream based, so it’s easier to blend – and it does blend very well – on the skin and with the other colors later on. If you don’t want something that’s cream based, another option is to use a white face paint and then layer it with the white shade. If you’re pressed for time, this alternative is better since the cream has to be set into a powder.

Step 3. Start painting your face and neck

The first thing you need to do is to apply the white cream base on your face and neck. Cover all your bases using a buffing brush. Leave the eyes because you’re going to do a different makeup on that area. Once you’re done, brush some powder to let the cream set.

Step 4. Create the eye outline

Then work on your eye outline. Grab your angled lip brush, dab it to your black eyeshadow, and trace the circular outline of the socket of your eyes (after all, you’re making a skull!), going over your brows. The brush greatly helps in creating a thin outline to guide you when you have to put more colors in this area.

Step 5. Color your eyes red

It’s time to fill these areas of your eyes with red color. She’s using Coastal Scents B09, which kind of looks like bold pink. But I actually like playing around with colors for this one. You may want to check out Kat Von D’s Mi Vida Loca Remix. The colors are just as vibrant!

To apply the makeup, use a flat brush and cover the entire socket with red, reaching all the way to the edges of your brows. Sometimes the makeup runs off, to avoid letting it mess with your white makeup, powder some tissue onto the messy areas.

We’re done with the first part of the Day of the Dead makeup tutorial! Now look at the image below.

As you can see, half of the face is already done. But this is just to make the tutorial quicker and easier. All you need to do is to copy the finished product on the blank side of your face. Are you ready?

Step 6. Begin creating the outline of spiderwebs on your forehead

Get your angled lip brush and use it to create outlines for spider webs on your forehead. For the color, your black eyeshadow will do. Rather than tracing lines, it’s better if you use dots so they’re easier to blend in if you make mistakes, which is more likely to happen since getting the right symmetry is usually trial and error.

Steady your hands by putting your arms on the table. After you’ve made the thin outline and you’re happy with the result, you can go back to tracing more solid lines.

Step 7. Start working on the outline of your nose

After you’ve completed the outlines on your forehead, work on the outline of your nose such as the image above. The outline runs all the way to the nostrils.

Step 8. Then proceed with the outline of your mouth

Avoid putting colors on your nose first and proceed with creating your last outline around the mouth to make the jawbone of the skull. Using your angled lip brush and your black eyeshadow, create dotted lines that run from the corner of your mouth all the way to the cheekbone. Then make the same thing from your ears toward the cheekbone. Do the outlines as well from the corner of your lip toward your chin area.

Step 9. Create a soft gradient effect

Go back to your forehead. This time, put more black eyeshadow around the edges of the hairline and the lines of your web using a buffing brush. You also need to use the angled lipstick brush for better definition on the lines.

Step 10. Brush red on your forehead

Add some red eyeshadow near the eyes and below your web to create a nice transition between the whites of your forehead and the reds of your eyes. You can make the gradient soft or bold, but I prefer the former. I like the faded look of the color.

Step 11. Refine the spiderweb outlines

Using an angled lipstick brush, define the lines of your forehead further. This way, the cobwebs become more prominent and visible.

Step 12. Work on the eyes

After you’re done with the forehead, it’s time to work on your eyes. For the Day of the Dead makeup tutorial, there’s a lot of emphasis on silhouettes around the eye area. You can do that by brushing black eyeshadow on the corners of your eyes and then defining the outlines of your sockets using a pencil brush. For this part of the tutorial, your blending brush is important to create the smoky gradient. Use a tissue as well to make sure you don’t end up brushing below your eyes.

Step 13. Place crystals

This is my favorite part! For a more glamorous gothic look, add some rock crystals. The tutorial is using these red ones, but any color will do. Place them in more or less the same distance from each other around the outlines of the socket. The bigger stones can be placed near the eyebrows while the small ones can be below the eyelids.

Step 14. Attach your eyelashes

To highlight the eyes further, use fake eyelashes. For this tutorial, Esquido eyelashes are being used. Of course, you can use your favorite brand. Just don’t forget to make sure you attach those lashes properly.

Step 15. Work on the flower details on the cheeks

We’re almost done! At this point, it’s time to work on the flower details of your cheeks. You need your angled lipstick brush to create the swirls and the pointed brush for a better blending of your black eyeshadows. Using your red eyeshadow, dab red circles on the swirls then trace the edges. Blend the black colors on your upper cheekbones near the ears.

Step 16. Complete the details of the mouth and lips

Work on your lips. Reapply black color on the lines you’ve made using your angled lipstick brush. You will also use it to create the “teeth” on your mouth area by making lines running from the upper to the lower part of your mouth. With the pointed brush, soften the look, making it appear more like a shadow than actual lines.

With a clean brush, apply white makeup in between the lines. Then draw a black line that will run across the middle of your lips (actually the upper outline of your lower lip) to complete the mandible of the skull.

Step 17. Blacken the nose

It’s time to complete the nose. If you’re not using a black face paint or you have a cream-based makeup, cover the makeup with your black eyeshadow.

Step 18. You’re done!

Arrange your hair, add some fake flowers, and you’re done! You’re ready for your Halloween party.

Beetlejuice Lips: The Viral TikTok Trend Shaking Up Beauty Norms https://makeuptutorials.com/beetlejuice-lips-tiktok-beauty-trend/ https://makeuptutorials.com/beetlejuice-lips-tiktok-beauty-trend/#respond Tue, 08 Oct 2024 14:02:00 +0000 https://makeuptutorials.com/?p=65798 “Beetlejuice Lips” is the latest TikTok sensation that  took the beauty world by storm with its creepy yet intriguing design. Inspired by the 1988 film Beetlejuice, the makeup trend is about creating bold, cracked lips that resemble the character’s black-and-white striped suit. As many users jumped on the trend, an unexpected twist surfaced. Achieving the Beetlejuice lips is nearly impossible for people with lip fillers. As a result, this sparked discussions about beauty standards, authenticity, and social media pressure.

Beetlejuice Lips: The Viral TikTok Trend Shaking Up Beauty Norms

What Are Beetlejuice Lips?

Beetlejuice lips became a viral sensation after TikTok creator Hello Adri shared a makeup tutorial that blew up and gained over 40 million views. The look itself is simple:  Apply a bright lip color like green or purple then layer a darker shade on top. After that, press your lips together to create creases, and dab dark eyeshadow or pigment into those lines. When you relax your lips, it creates a jagged, crackled effect that resembles Beetlejuice’s striped suit.

Beauty influencers, including stars like Jeffree Star, jumped on the trend. Some pulled it off, but those with lip fillers ran into issues. The trend relies on natural lip creases for the striped effect, but fillers smooth out those creases, making it hard to get the desired look.  Consequently, this led to some funny and embarrassing makeup fails and left many influencers frustrated.

The Downside of Lip Fillers

Lip fillers, typically made from hyaluronic acid, plump the lips and smooth out wrinkles.  Despite their popularity in the beauty world, they don’t work well with the Beetlejuice lips trend. The crackled look heavily relies on the presence of natural lip lines. Unfortunately,  fillers erase these lines.

Even Jeffree Star struggled with this. Instead of the cool striped effect,  his lips ended up a blotchy mess. Fans quickly pointed out that his fillers were the issue, which added to the growing online amusement. One viewer joked, “It’s funny to see influencers struggle with a trend that celebrates natural beauty!”  As more and more influencers tried the trend, it became clearer that lip fillers and Beetlejuice lips just don’t mix.

Authenticity vs. Enhancement: The Bigger Conversation

The Beetlejuice lips trend opened a bigger discussion about the pressure on influencers to always look flawless. Over the years, many influencers have pushed unrealistic beauty standards. This often included relying on lip fillers, Botox, or plastic surgery.

Unfortunately for enhanced influencers, the Beetlejuice lips trend highlighted natural features. As a result, it inadvertently called out influencers who previously altered their looks. Enhancements that once stood out now made it harder for them to join in on the latest viral challenge. In fact, this shift is refreshing for some. One viral comment on X (formerly Twitter) said, “Finally, a trend for people with normal lips! It’s great seeing influencers struggle for a change.”

A Shift in Beauty Trends?

The rise of Beetlejuice lips might point to a bigger change in beauty standards. For years, the beauty industry has pushed for flawless, unreachable looks—smooth skin, full lips, and wrinkle-free faces. But with trends like this, more people appreciate natural features like wrinkles, freckles, and skin texture.

Even better, more individuals are now choosing less invasive beauty routines, with some even choosing to dissolve their fillers to return to their natural look.

Experts have noticed this change as well. Dr. Bashir, a cosmetic surgeon, observed a rise in patients asking to dissolve their lip fillers. “More clients are embracing their original features and requesting natural looks. Trends like Beetlejuice lips are driving this movement,” Dr. Bashir explained.

A Trend That Shakes Up Beauty Norms

The Beetlejuice lips trend became more than just a fun Halloween makeup trick. It’s become a viral sensation that started a bigger conversation about beauty. With Halloween approaching, Beetlejuice lips will likely stay popular, but its real impact might be its role in shifting beauty norms. More focus is leaning  toward authenticity and natural beauty and pulling people away from the pressure to look flawless.

This trend shows that the pursuit of perfection can sometimes backfire and give way for  real, unedited features to shine. Whether it’s just a fad or a lasting change, Beetlejuice lips remind us that beauty doesn’t have to be picture-perfect.

Pop Art Grunge Harley Quinn Makeup Tutorial https://makeuptutorials.com/pop-art-harley-quinn-makeup-tutorial/ https://makeuptutorials.com/pop-art-harley-quinn-makeup-tutorial/#respond Thu, 12 Sep 2024 04:41:58 +0000 https://makeuptutorials.com/?p=31751 Join the DC Universe with this pop art Harley Quinn makeup tutorial. Aside from being Joker’s sidekick, her edgy, yet feminine image has tickled a lot of us makeup geeks into recreating her playful look.

Pop Art Grunge Harley Quinn Makeup Tutorial

Get ready with this cute and fun Harley Quinn makeup tutorial…

There have been various interpretations uploaded online, but this pop art makeup tutorial by artist Jordan Hanz tops the list. Here’s how you can get that Harley Quinn’s Suicide Squad look:

What You’ll Need to do the Pop Art Harley Quinn Makeup Tutorial:

Foundation

Concealer

Blue Eyeshadow

Red Eyeshadow

Black Eyeshadow

Mehron Water Activated Body Paint (White, Black, Red, Blue)

Step 1: Start With The Canvas

Apply your usual foundation and conceal unwanted marks. You can go lighter or darker than your skin tone. However, Harley Quinn is fair so it might be a better representation of the character if you stick to lighter shades. Don’t forget to set with a setting powder in order to keep the product in place.

Step 2: Add Dimension to Your Face

Add in your contour lines to give your face dimension. The contour will serve as a guide for the bold lines needed for this look.

Step 3: Color ‘Em Eyes!

Follow with Harley Quinn’s signature pop art blue and red eyeshadows by pressing an electric blue shade to your left eye and a blue-based red eyeshadow on your right. Starting with the outer corner, concentrate the makeup pigments, and smudge towards the inner corner, sweeping down to your lower lid. Harley Quinn’s eye shadow in the Suicide Squad movie is spread out to the outer corner, but for the purpose of a grungy look, this tutorial tells you to bring it down to the where it meets your cheek area.

Step 4: Finish Your Eye Makeup by Adding in the Details

Add black pigment to your eye keeping it close to the upper and lower lash line and about halfway through. This is for the purpose of framing your eyes and giving it that big wide-eyed look just like Harley Quinn. Don’t forget to fill in your brows as your brows also frame and define your face.

Step 5: Bold Lips for the Puddin’

Part of Harley Quinn’s signature look is her deep red lips. Choose a deep red that matches your skin tone. To truly bring in the pop art grunge look, smudge the lip color down from the corner of your lip to your chin.

Step 6: Time to Have Fun

It is time to add in your pop art details in your makeup. This tutorial tells you to basically draw a thick black line on the border of your face and thinner lines on your lips, eyes, nose, and where contour shadow would be. Note that water activated face paints glide on easily but care is needed when applying to the eye area since the slightest hint of tears can ruin your application.

Step 7: Shadows and Highlights

Add in details like shadows and highlights to add depth. Add crosshatching lines to where your contour needs to be, to create the illusion of subtle shadows on the planes of the face and streaks of white paint where light would normally reflect to highlight it.

Step 8: Suit Up!

Create Harley Quinn’s red and blue shirt by using the same face paint on your body. You may have to layer the colors to make it opaque. Add shadows and highlights to create the illusion of creasing and movement on fabric.

Step 9: Crowning Glory

Finish off with a blonde wig dipped in red and blue dye and add lines where the hair part to create a more pop art grunge look.

Don’t miss the heart shape drawn on Harley Quinn’s right cheek. Keep the entire look a bit messy for a true pop art grunge look.

Add an accessory like Harley Quinn’s baseball bat and you’re ready to snap some photos.

3. Day of the Dead

And before you think this is incredibly hard to pull off, then you better check out different tutorials on YouTube. Learn how to get this same look right here.

4. Half Skull

Half skulls are always trendy during Halloween! I think it’s because it’s easy to do, versatile, and doesn’t take too much time as you only have to put makeup on half of your face!

It’s also a great way to create the illusion of life and death (oohhhh!). If you want to recreate the look above, you can use good-quality white face paint and dark eyeshadow palettes.

And here’s another idea for your half skull! So basically you can paint the upper or the lower half, or the right or left side.

It’s your choice.

5. Neon Pink Skull

“Dreamy” is probably the last word you’ll ever think about skeleton makeup, but it can actually happen!

I adore this Halloween look a lot as it gives the feeling of freshness and brightness — totally in contrast and different from the spooky Halloween makeup you often see. And check out the shimmer and how it highlights blue eyes.

10. Twin Skeletons

I have to admit this is extremely hard to pull off. Not only are the details too technical and many, but you also need to copy each of the elements correctly.

But hey isn’t all the hard work worth it? Imagine doing this with your special someone!

11. Holo Skull

halloween-beauty-portrait-skeleton-woman-death | day of the dead makeup

It’s all about Holo this year, so it doesn’t surprise me that Halloween would be full of it, too! Incorporating Holo into your skeleton makeup will definitely give you that extra “oomph” you need to make your outfit pop some more.

You can take it up a notch by wearing Holo nail polish as well.

12. Galactic Skull

luminous-silhouette-red-closeup-portrait-young | halloween makeup

You know what’s better than skeleton makeup on Halloween? Galactic skeleton makeup looks!

This one takes the cake with the amount of detail involved. Intricately designed like a sugar skull, this design looks wonderful enough to be sent to space.

13. Colorful Skeleton Makeup

adorable-zombies-flower-wreaths-posing-on | zombie makeup

Who would have known that skulls can be colorful and done with your family? Put out your most colorful face paints and get ready to unleash your creativity! I love this design for its ability to make a potentially scary-looking makeup look like so much fun.

14. The Joker

Now, this is fairly new! A skeleton makeup and The Joker in one look? It could be hard to pull off but it’s certainly possible, just take inspiration from this photo above.

15. Romantic Skeleton Makeup

This makeup look is all too romantic to skip. The floral touch is cute and can be a perfect look for a romantic Halloween date, don’t you think?

Oops, I’m not done yet! I have here another fantastic skeleton makeup tutorial called Melting Skull. Intriguing! Look how Desi Perkins does it:

Which of these skeleton makeup looks to give you goosebumps? I’d have to choose number 12.

It’s as eerie as it gets! But, hopefully, you’re not just spooked.

It would make me happy if I’ve helped you come up with the most gorgeous and scariest look for this year’s Halloween. Don’t forget to let me know how it went, okay?

The weather, the fashion, the festivities — these are just some of the many things I love about the fall.

But of course, there’s one more thing I’d never dare miss in my life: Halloween because it gives me the perfect excuse to wear my best skeleton makeup!

My skeleton makeup list is subjective. But I tried my best to give you as many options as you can.

As you can also see, most of the choices concentrate on the face or the skull. If there’s one thing you need to get right in your Halloween look, it’s the face.

After all, it can be the basis for your entire look, including your costume and accessories.

What do you think of my skeleton makeup list? Did I help you prep for your Halloween look? I’d love to know your thoughts by leaving me your comments below!
